On This Month's Fear Candy
Feeling cheerful? Perfused by an aura of calm and a deep sense of well-being?
Put an end to that nonsense with this month's array of tunes

CD compiled by Miranda Yardley & Amy Harris
Artwork by Johan de Jager

1. INSOMNIUM
'Ephemeral' taken from the Century Media album 'Shadows Of The Dying Sun'

An exclusive first listen of the new single from these melancholy Finnish melodic death/doomsters treats us to growling vocals
and amazing harmonized guitar riffs, expect more of the same from the new album.

2. AUTOPSY
'The Howling Dead' taken from the Peaceville album 'Tourniquets, Hacksaws & Graves'

Everyone's favourite grubby death metal legends share this guttural offering.
Amid snarls and sneers and some quite frankly disgustingly dirty bass lines,
this track shows you the Californian four-piece are still keeping it filthy.

3. SATAN'S SATYRS
'Curse Of The Corpse' taken from the Bad Omen album 'Die Screaming'

Hailing from Virginia, this three-piece keep it old school with plenty of deep riffs, rumbling bass and retro vocals.
With an interesting change of pace midway it has a fresh take on an old formula.

4. SUBLIRITUM
'Grotesque Wars' taken from the Battlegod album 'Downfall'

The Norwegian black metal outfit lay down this vicious track. Dust off your best metal gurn and get grimacing,
because this is five minutes 45 seconds of hell. In a good way.
Terrorize.it/Subliritum

5. EPICA
'The Essence Of Silence' taken from the Nuclear Blast album 'The Quantum Enigma'

The Dutch symphonic metallers are back, and they're in a heavy mood with this track from their latest album.
There's the usual quota of big hooks, melodic proggery and lush textures too, of course.

6. SWITCHBLADE JESUS
'Oblivion' taken from the Bilocation album 'Switchblade Jesus'

Hands up if you like Southern riffs, gravelly vocals and massive massive hooks… Oh that's everyone then? Great!
This band are new on our radar but we are definite converts.

7. BRUTALITY WILL PREVAIL
'Escapist' taken from the Siege Of Amida/Century Media album 'Suspension Of Consciousness'

These Welsh destroyers combine some crushing sludge with hardcore aggression to create something nicely caustic.
Catch them at Knebworth this summer at Sonisphere.

8. INHARMONIC
'Ugly' taken from the self-released EP 'Ugly'

Time for some Finnish death metal now as this five-piece get pulses racing and heads banging. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

9. TEMTRIS
'Darkness Lies' taken from the Battlegod album 'Shallow Grave'

Classic heavy metal with an extreme twist or two from this Australian outfit, featuring haunting powerful vocals and intricate guitar solos,
this makes for a delicious mix of smooth dark metal and shredding.

10. HAMEREX
'The Life Of Death' taken from the IX Music album 'IX'

These UK heavy metal veterans lay down some scalding lyrics and huge grooves in this track,
pushing forward relentlessly and making you want to move.

11. GREENHORN
'Horse Cock' taken from the Back Bow EP 'Doomhawk'

Sludgy goodness here from these guys, who are appearing on Fear Candy for a second time.
We couldn't wait to have them back. More doom than you can shake an equine appendage at.
www.Facebook.com/GreenhornUK

12. FORGERY
'Mind Of Rage' taken from the Battlegod album 'With These Fists'

We head to Norway now with this thrash quartet. It is firmly true to its roots,
but with a few gems thrown in thanks to changes of pace, thundering vocals and chugging riffs.
www.Facebook.com/ForgeryMetal

13. INVOCATION
'Through The Smoke' taken from the self-released album 'Atlas'

Based in Milton Keynes these guys are making their mark on the UK tech metal scene having played Techfest last year.
These guys have a passion for metal, and bananas… Don't believe us? Watch the video.

14. SACRAMENT
'Cut The Wire' taken from the self-released album 'In The Eyes Of Creation'

Out and out thrash from this UK lot who have been heavily influenced by the big thrash bands of the '80s.
This track is relentless, and everything a great thrash sound should be.
www.Facebook.com/SacraMetal

15. MUR
'Dominance' taken from the Dooweet album 'Mur'

Imagine if Neurosis and Doomriders had a very angry love child and you're on the right track.
Funked up with some synths for good measure, this is a refreshing take on the post-metal genre.
www.Facebook.com/MurGenius

16. DORMIN
'Distance' taken from the self-released album 'To Foreign Skies'

We round things up with this interesting track, part doom, part gothy shoegaze and part… well, we'll let you work that out for yourself.
It's an unusual combination of sounds they offer.

Somit gibt es also häufig angebliche Treffer.
