01 VOYAGER - Ascension Typically big, bold and anthemic sounds from these Aussie progressive metallers. The new album ups the prog ante from V, melding big, bouncy riffs and an almost 80s pop sensibility, which suggest the band are on to another winner with Ghost Mile.

02 BIG BIG TRAIN - Experimental Gentlemen (Part Two: Merchants Of Light) You can tell by the epic nature of this track that Big Big Train are back in more progressive territory with Grimspound than they were with Folklore. Nice and catchy, too...

03 GOLDRAY - Soulchild It's been awhile coming, but finally Goldray's debut album is with us, full of shimmering psych sounds, swiriling proggy goodness and some fine fretboard work from mainman Kenwyn House. Soulchild is the Soundtrack to one crazy, hazy summer.

04 PALLBEARER - I Saw The End Up until now this Arkansas quartet have been seen largely as a doom band, a fact backed up by their records. However, I Saw The End, from new one Heartless, shows much more progressive leanings. Are we about to nick another band from the clutches of our Metal Hammer buddies?

05 WHITE WILLOW - In Dim Days Future Hopes has been six years in the making, and as you'd expect with White Willow, the Norwegians have changed tack once again. The expansive In Dim Days with new vocalist Venke Knutson shows the band remain as dramatic as ever.

06 DAMANEK - Long Time Shadow Falls Debuting live at last year's Summer's End, this Anglo-Australian supergroup of sorts pleased everyone with a symphonic, Toto-esque vibe. We're happy to report, now the album's finished, that their intriguing sound remains the same.

07 AYREON - The Dream Dissolves As you'd expect with Arjen Lucassen, the concept for the new Ayreon album is as out there in the stars as the record itself is star-studded. The Dream Dissolves holds nothing back in terms of proggy scope and wild ambition.

08 LOVE STREET - Sleepers There's something delightfully dreamy about this lengthy, folk-laden track from this British quintet. They've been likened to a heavier blend of The Levellers meet Fairport Convention, and we don’t think we can disagree.

09 CIRCULINE - Summit Circuline are one of many US bands making inroads into the global prog scene, with their recent appearance at Cruise To The Edge and upcoming showing at 10 Earth's Harmonix event. The epic Summit shows these New York state musicians certainly know how to prog with the best of them.
