01 ROBERT REED - Sanctuary Keyboard wizard and leader of much-loved proggers Magenta, Rob Reed ventures into green and Pleasant pastures for his solo effort, Sanctuary. An evident Mike Oldfield feel is created with his use of flutes and a jovial, upbeat tone that brings forth images of rolling hills and blue skies.

02 PERFECT BEINGS - Fictions Perfect Beings bring Yes-era prog to the 21st Century with this synth-heavy release. The traditional and modern work together here, with the extended guitar solos vocal-like in their tone, making this a nostalgic yet modern trip down memory lane.

03 CAP - Soli Sull'olimpo The eccentric widdling of the ltalian prog scene is well known (and loved). Bands like CAP have taken an acquired taste and transformed it into a musical phenomenon. This 40th-anniversary release will delight with its OTT grandiosity.

04 THE GIFT - Road Runs On 'til Morning The term 'catchy' is often associated with insipid, radio-friendly fare. But The Gift's latest release will have you toe-tapping and singing along, as well as admiring the complex, upbeat melodies and Rick Wakeman-style keyboards.

05 ALIEN QUARTET - Table For One (At Katz's Deli) Based around the musical musings of Peter Grey, New York City Grey uses synths to tell the story of Grey's early life. This personal endeavour needs concentration to take in the multitude of layers woven into it.

06 CHAT NOIR - Chelsea High Line One of the good things about being an 'experimental’ band is that your audience never knows what to expect, and that certainly can be said about Italy's Chat Noir. Best described as post-jazz electronica, this three-piece have no peers and they're definitely ones to watch.

07 INTERSTATIC - Caerbannog This track comes from the album Arise, which sounds like one very long improvisation Session. While there's seemingly no limit to their sonic experimentation, on Arise, the use of Hammond organ gives their inimitable sound a familiar aspect.

08 EPICA - Unchain Utopia Epica's foray into the prog world has resulted in a sound that's refined, memorable and unique. Past albums show their transition to a more progressive persuasion, yet this new song clearly invokes a sense of nostalgia from their Symphonic past.

Collibus are one of those groups: their music has an air of death metal intensity, but with subtle prog nuances and vocals that are both sublime and terrifying.

10 HAMMERHEAD - Psilocybin If you’ve ever been curious about the effects of mind-altering substances but never quite done the deed, then trip-masters Hammerhead will give you a pretty accurate idea. This eccentric and at times frightening concoction, punctuated with eerie, ghostly voices, will bring you as close to the cerebral unknown as it gets.
