YOU SEE IT NOW WITH ALL OF THESE FATHERS, GOOD MEN AND TRUE, WHO LOST THEIR LIVES AND LIMBS IN IRAQ FOR NO REASON AT ALL. I'VE DONE BRING THE BOYS BACK HOME IN MY ENCORES ON RECENT TOURS. IT FEELS MORE RELEVANT AND POIGNANT TO BE SINGING THAT SONG NOW THAN IT DID IN 1979."
SO SAID ROGER WATERS IN ISSUE 193 OF MOJO, EXPLAINING The Wall's continued resonance three decades after its release. While Waters lost his own father at a tender age, the album itself deals with issues that extend far beyond the death of a paternal figure. The more you listen to The Wall, the more trenchant the issues appear to be. Its brutal honesty allows the album to rise above all accusations of narcissism.
The biggest selling double album of all-time, the LP itself has also exerted a magnetic influence on fellow musicians, its themes of isolation and egotism possessing a particular fascination. Its appeal among musicians has allowed MOJO to assemble what has been one of our most ambitious projects to date in the shape of this exclusive two disc tribute to Pink Floyd's 1979 masterpiece. As with Disc One, we invite you once again to check out the individual work of all the artists involved with this second instalment of The Wall Re-Built, and to revel in the new perspectives offered by this unique celebration.
