AMG: 'Phil Manzanera may be known for his work with Roxy Music, but one other thing is true, and that is no one knows what to expect from him. He has dabbled with ambient music (The Wasted Lands), rock, and prog rock (such as his work with 801). On this release, he works with one of Cuba's best-known bands, Moncada, and produces one very smoking, lively CD. This is Cuban music at its finest, full of strong Latin rhythms and tight, hot playing. Manzanera gets lost in the shuffle, but perhaps that is what he hoped. His trademark guitar is there, and this was an opportunity for him to visit his childhood roots. This is not Cuba does Roxy. Manzanera does shine with two tracks from his brilliant Southern Cross CD (the title track) and the Tim Finn-penned &"Astrud." This is a great CD and an opportunity for Manzanera fans to hear him in a whole new light. Aaron Badgley'
