COOL CLASSICS
Music from the best singer songwriters

release notes:
EXCLUSIVE CD WITH TODAY'S EVENING STANDARD AND METRO LIFE Our fantastic 10-track CD, free with today's Evening Standard and Metro Life, features exhilarating music from some of the chart's most talented male singer-songwriters...

1. PAUL WELLER - WILD WOOD After a career spanning a quarter of a century, Paul Weller has established a distinguished reputation as one of Britain's greatest singer songwriters. After producing some spectacular works with the Jam and the Style Council, Weller has gone on to carve himself an even greater solo career.
Taken from the album Days Of Speed (Independiente)

2. JAMIE CULLUM - POINTLESS NOSTALGIC Jamie Cullum has had a swift rise to jazz fame since his debut album Pointless Nostalgic. This, the title track of the album, co-written with his older brother Ben, is a great example of why Jamie is the future of jazz.
Taken from the album Pointless Nostalgic (Candid Productions)

3. DAMIEN RICE - THE BLOWERS DAUGHTER On the evidence of double platinum success, Damien Rice's debut album O is proof that the public want the emotional works of singer songwriters.
Although comparisons with David Gray and Coldplay abound, Rice's musical adventurousness puts songs like 'The Blowers Daughter' into a league of their own.
Taken from the Album O (14th Floor Records)

4. JOHN MARTYN - COBBLES
John Martyn returns with his 22nd album - his
first for four years. While producing 22 albums is a stretch for most artists, Martyn has created what most musicians would want for a debut album.
Collaborations with the likes of Paul Weller and Nick McCabe help to produce what must be one his finest works.
Taken from the album On The Cobbles (Independiente)

5. NIC ARMSTRONG - I'LL COME TO YOU Enter Nic Armstrong, a 24-
year-old displaced Geordie, now living in Nottingham, who released his debut single, 'Natural Flair', last November on One Little Indian, proof that not everything with a keen eye on the past must surrender its soul and turn a blind eye to anything vaguely contemporary.
Each track on The Greatest White Liar showcases the remarkable talent of Armstrong and his unnerving ability to twist his classic influences into a contemporary album of finely crafted pop moments.
Taken from the album The Greatest White Liar (One Little Indian)

6. JOSH RITTER - YOU DON'T MAKE IT EASY BABE Josh Ritter's songs are a rare gift of natural, intuitive beauty. The 11 songs on Starling
retain the feel and flow of another era; these
are catch-tunes and earnest lullabies that rekindle the warm glow of a young Springsteen or Leonard Cohen in both their literacy and honest enthusiasm.
Sell-out shows in New York, Boston and Dublin, as well as a trip to the Sundance Film Festival, kicked off last year in style and are proof of the growing appeal of this talented singer songwriter.
Taken from the album Starling (Setanta Records)

7. MARK JOSEPH - GIVE ME Mark Joseph's break came when his self-recorded debut single 'Get Through', released through his own Mark Joseph Records label, entered the charts at No.
38 with no advertising or PR. The 22-year-old singer songwriter from Yorkshire has a passion for what he calls 'real' music.
Taken from the album Scream (14th Floor Records)

8. ZICO - HALF CAT HALF PIRANHA Zico is an exciting, new singer songwriter from the north of England, currently creating a stir on the London circuit. Armed only with a guitar and a set of outstanding songs, he has won himself a devoted following from punters and industry alike.
A spine-tingling, androgynous voice and rock'n'roll star quality, he has even been compared to Janice Joplin! Catch Zico on Thurs 3 Jun, The Troubadour , Old Brompton Road

9. RAY - NOVEMBER'S RAIN The London four piece's follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2002 album First Light is a shimmering melodic album with a warm sound. 'November's Rain' is a shining example of what Q has called 'the clinical Michael Owen of guitar pop.' Taken from the album Deep Blue Happy, (LO-MAX/Circus Records) www.raytheband.com

Somit gibt es also häufig angebliche Treffer.
