Need a Christmas playlist? Look no further than the cremé de la créme of this year's rock, i.e. the select tunes below. They're awesome, frankly.

01 RIVAL SONS – Electric Man An electric beginning for an electric representation for what has been an electric year of rock'n'roll. Step forward Electric Man, opener from the Californian rock peacocks' regal fourth album. More swagger than James Dean, enough classic panache to make Led Zeppelin proud.
From: Great Western Valkyrie

02 JOE BONAMASSA – Never Give All Your Heart We already knew Joe was a shit-hot guitarist. We'd already witnessed his sharp, modern take on blues rock. With Different Shades Of Blue, however, he proved he can write seriously good songs as well, as this brooding, rousing number testifies.
From: Different Shades Of Blue

03 BILLY IDOL – Can't Break Me Down It had been eight years since we'd heard a recorded peep out of the British punk legend. The years appear to have left an uplifting mark on Idol, though, as this uptempo, slick'n'shiny but classy track affirms. Unashamedly poppy, and thoroughly enjoyable too.
From: Kings & Queens Of The Underground

04 SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS – Bent To Fly A pretty yet hard-hitting highlight from Slash and l his angelically voiced partner in crime. When they do power ballads, they do them like stormtroopers - in a very good ,vay. Wonderfully big, melodic stuff.
From: World On Fire

05 CROBOT – Nowhere To Hide This is how you do really good stoner rock - by lacing it with sci-fi lyrics and lashings of funky grooves. Crobot gave us a memorable night at their London debut, during which this went down like a barrel of wine at... well, most places. In other words: very well.
From: Something Supernatural

06 BLACK STONE CHERRY – Remember Me 2014 saw the Kentucky boys morph from promising southern dudes into stellar hard-rock kings. The moody, mighty likes of Remember Me prove just how ready they were for the UK arenas they've headlined this year.
From: Magic Mountain

07 BLUES PILLS – High Class Woman Layer on your finest cheesecloth apparel and party like it's 1969 with this scorching number from the Swedish/French/American blues-rock cohorts. Devil woman cries from singer Elin Larsson, gorgeously mature licks from guitarist Dorian Sorriaux... You'll want to abandon the 21st Century for good.
From: Blues Pills

08 ACE FREHLEY – Gimme A Feelin' (Radio Edit) Apparently being caught in the Gene Simmons web of feuds doesn't prevent you from making a great solo record, as former Kiss guitarist Frehley demonstrates, on superb form with this stomp'n'romp belter. 'You're driving me fuckin' nuts' the Spaceman concludes. Fuckin' nuts, but feelin' good.
From: Space Invader

09 HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER – Saturday's Song We still don't really know why the album is called The Lateness Of Dancers (are dancers generally late people?) but that hasn't stopped it from being a lush, surprise favourite of 2014. Original Americana/folk rock at its most beguiling.
From: Lateness Of Dancers

10 WALTER TROUT – The Bottom Of The River Thankfully the bluesman's tensely awaited liver transplant was a success, as was his rootsy, percussive album of old-school blues. Mouth organ meets mouth-watering guitar solos on this pensive, acoustically driven tune, and we like it very much.
From: The Blues Came Callin'

11 FLYING COLORS – Mask Machine Mike Portnoy, Steve Morse and co. returned with a triumphant bang for their second LP as a pop-prog supergroup. Well, in places it's more 'all-out prog', though the excellent single Mask Machine wields a substantial, strident rock punch as well.
From: Second Nature

12 ORANGE GOBLIN – The Devil's Whip Be happy, good people, Orange Fucking Goblin are back. And they bring with them a breakneck shot of heavy metal bliss - simple yet joyously perfect, propelled by the roaring, 20-foot-tall titan that is Ben Ward. Just try to not like it - you will fail.
From: Back From The Abyss

13 OPETH – Cusp Of Eternity 2014 saw the prog-metal Swedes crank their progressive side up to 11 with the sublime Pale Communion. But as this track shows, they haven't lost their heavy crunch - they've just made it even more bold and beautiful than ever before.
From: Pale Communion

14 BUZZCOCKS – People Are Strange Machines Never mind the bollocks, Buzzcocks have returned with their ninth studio album. And guess what? It's very good indeed, riding on the spirited punk joie de vivre of winners like this song. We approve.
From: The Way

15 LIONIZE – Breather The Clutch-favoured funk/reggae/punk rock Marylanders outdid themselves with their fifth LP, released in February. This song is a sparkling realisation of the groovy heights they're capable of scaling. Don't 'take a breather' - get stuck in!

Somit gibt es also häufig angebliche Treffer.
