01
BLUES PILLS – Time Is Now
The name might scream 'mid-60s mod', but their music is firmly rooted in the British blus explosion at the end of that decade. BP are fast gaining a reputation for brilliant live shows with much shaking of hair and eye-screwing guitar solos. Catch them at a small venue while you still can.

THE CADILLAC THREE - Get Your Buzz On
Formerly known as Cadillac Black, this Nashville-based trio have dubbed their sound 'country fuzz'. Not a bad description of this catchy single, which ticks all the southern rock boxes: there's some slide guitar, the obligatory booze reference ... and it rhymes
'party' with
'the girls who get naughty'.

WHITE DENIM - At Night In Dreams (Radio Edit)
Could 2014 be the year they finally cross over? This is a highlight from recent album,
Corsicana Lemonade, their fizziest, most accessible confection to date. If Kings Of Leon can take their southern/alt rock hybrid to stadiums, why can't this lot?.

Corsicana Lemonade (Pias)

BLACKBERRY SMOKE - Six Ways To Sunday
More southern boys. Blackberry Smoke are hardly new - they've been around since the turn of the century - but are only now making inroads this side of the Atlantic. Residing at the, er, cheekier end of their oeuvre, this works the good ol' religion/sex metaphor for all its worth:
'Woman if you want a disciple, we can have a little revival,' promises frontman Charlie Starr with a lascivious wink.

GIUDA - Wild Tiger Woman
We haven't had many Italian glam bands in
Classic Rock down the years. Indeed, Giuda (pronounced Jew-da) may be the first.
Wild Tiger Woman is a nifty stomper that features descreet nods to both
Ballroom Blitz and
Tiger Feet. Oh yes, Giuda, we know where you got those 'heyyyyyyy' backing vocals.

Let's Do It Again (Damaged Goods)

NO SINNER - Boo Hoo Hoo
Spare a thought for vocalist Colleen Rennison, whose gutsy vocals have already led to her being acclaimed by - and burdened with - a 'new Janis Joplin' label. This piece of finger-clickin', old-skool rock'n'roll slows down and then speeds up again. Not enough rocks songs do that, do they? Interesting fact: No Sinner is their frontwoman's name spelled backwards.

AMERICAN FANGS – Pomona
Foot-to-the-floor power-pop from this sprightly Texan five-piece. So catchy and fast it leaves you breathless. (And how considerate to coin a name that's a gift for sub-editors the world over. Fangs a lot, guys!).

Pomona EP (self-released)
08
CAGE THE GODS - Badlands
Fast-rising British rockers who include an English drummer, Scottish guitarist, Welsh bassist and Irish frontman. They also have a sense of humour: their debut EP features a called song
Bruce Willis (My Time Is Now) after they sync'd footage of the actor to one of its tracks on YouTube.

Badlands (7Hz Productions)
09
LONG JOHN LAUNDRY - Howl
A tasty morsel of Stonesy raunch from Londoners who've just released their second album. With that jokey name and a formidable stage presence, don't be surprised if Mr Laundry pop up in some unexpected places in 2014. You heard it here first.

Coco's Corner (Outlaw Country)
10
ISRAEL NASH GRIPKA - Myer Canyon
The name may conjure up images of some flower-strewn 60s guru. But ING (which surely his close buddies call him) is a Missouri native who uses the evocatively-named Texan town of Dripping Springs as a base to despatch beautifully crafted acoustic missives into the world. You'll be unsurprised to hear he has a beard.

Rain Plans (Loose Music)
11
LONELY THE BRAVE - Black Saucers
Lonely The Brave only formed in 2012 but have impressed taste makers with their Pearl Jam-on-uppers-style rock - they're one of the few unsigned bands to play a session on Daniel P Carter's Radio 1 show, and they won a Songwriters' Award at the In The City industry bash last year.

Backroads EP
12
EVE TO ADAM - Immortal
ETA (great acronym) are street-level New York rockers with big ambitions. Certainly their producer Dave Bassett (no, not that one) feels they're the real deal. "Eve To Adam are on a mission to reclaim real rock'n'roll," he claims. "The grit, the power, the danger... To put it simply. they are poised to explode."

Locked & Loaded (3-For-5)
13
BEASTMILK - Death Reflects Us
They've got doomy song titles - their debut album contains cheery ditties
Genocidal Crush and
Nuclear Winter. Add serrated guitars and Curtis-like vocals and you'd be right to locate this Finnish group on the darker side of post-punk. Fans of Killing Joke and Bauhaus are likely to be aroused.

Climax (Svart )

THE HOAX - Let It Shine
Some
Classic Rock readers will remember The Hoax as the one-time bright new hopes of the UK blues rock scene. It never quite happended for them though, and after releasing four albums the group split around the turn of the millennium. In 2010 they re-formed and, on the evidence of this fiery-sounding track, they've relocated their mojo.

ROSCO LEVEE AND THE SOUTHERN SLIDE - Back To The Banks
Not a song about reapplying for a loan. Yes, Rosco Levee plays the blues. But, given that he's a Kentish lad, "Southern Slide' probably refers to south of Catford rather than the Mason-Dixon line. He's paid his dues, though - apparently he's been playing guitar since the age of five.
