Dylan is backed by Eric Clapton on guitar, Ron Wood & Kip Winger on bass, Beau Hill on keyboards and Henry Spinetti on drums...
This set represents a good quality soundboard tape of the Denmark show, and a good quality studio recording from the Hearts of Fire sessions. Were that statement, along with the 7-8 star rating all one had to judge the set by, it seems most desirable. However, consider the following. The Denmark show is not only unremarkable, but some songs teeter on the brink of disaster. The band sometimes falters, Dylan's phrasing and pitch sometimes float around into other worlds (the lifeless, and uninhabited ones); the guitar is a tad out of tune, and even though Dylan is talkative; the general feeling seems to be "Let's get this job over with" Even though the tape is soundboard with audience buried far to the background, the tape is muffled somewhat. As for the studio outtakes, they are from London's Townhouse Studios on August 27 & 28, 1986. They are not taken from the mixing console, but from the playback speakers through an open mic. There is a lot of distance from the mic to the speakers, and this creates 'air noise'. It also produced a muffled recording. As for the package, The non-Dylan front photo is about all there is. Very week aesthetics. The multiple take songs from CD two are recorded on one track with no way to 'flip between' the, at times, very different takes. There is limited and incomplete information on the recordings; and finally, the uniquely configured super slimline jewel case and J-cards make replacing a damaged case a near impossibility. Overall, the sound quality is good enough to warrant owning the package, but the detriments make it a 50/50 call.
