Another searing performance from Dylan and his gospel entourage during this very fertile period. The old classics have begun to weave their way back into the evangelical set lists alongside some brilliantly rendered versions from the Shot Of Love album. The tour was supporting this new album that would be released within a month. The entire Dylan portion of this beautiful German show is captured here on an excellent stereo audience recording. The crowd is befittingly energetic, but the powerful vocals and well mixed music flow unscathed by their excited applause and admiration. For such a rich period, one would hope for more of an elaborate package, but all of the venue information is accurate, and the photos, though used quite a bit on other titles, are appropriate and quite classic. The title and cover photo were taken from a 1983 LP release of this same show. There were no show opening songs from the back up singers this night, but there was a song from Carolyn Dennis (Walk Around Heaven All Day) as well as Willie Smith's Saved By The Grace Of Your Love that were left off of this package in favor of bonus tracks... and what incredibly well chosen songs they include! The rare, standout Barbara Allen performed with the band is one of only two such performances on the entire tour. Also included is the European tour's only performance of City Of Gold. Simple Twist Of Fate was well represented on tour, but was not included in the German show. Bob plays organ on this version of Heart Of Mine. The title track of the soon to be released LP was only performed a handful of times, and this is a good version of it. And lastly, kudos to the Thinman for traveling time a few months to the first ever performance of Every Grain Of Sand. This song from the very last night of the tour is not only a good choice for historical reasons, but it also rectifies the botheration that has existed since the release of the bootleg LP, in that now the title track is represented. You owe it to yourself to add this wonderful title to your collection. Don't let this one hang in the balance!
