Digitally remastered reissue packaged in state-of-the-art double gatefold card sleeves extended with brand new sleevenotes and loads of new scans and photos. The Comsat Angels an outfit from Sheffield will probably always be labeled as one of those bands that did not recieve the succes they deserved. Whereas bands like The Cure and U2 became major acts they remained relatively obscure. In the Netherlands however this band was well appreciated and much asked for. More or less the same goes for The Sound. As a debut "Waiting For A Miracle" is a remarkable album. The Comsat Angels prove they are on par with all the known bands in the post-punk genre. The opener "Mission In Action" starts with Stephen Fellows' crescending guitars and Mik Glaisher's minimalistic but highly effective drums that kick in at a certain moment to provide the song with the necessary speed. The bass playing of Kevin Bacon fits in perfectly with the moody synths and adds a melancholic touch to the song. "Baby" features the typical haunting, somber guitars that would become one of the trademarks of The Comsat Angels. The album needs some time to sink in as catchy songs are scarce, but the more you listen to the album the better it gets. The bonus tracks include out-takes and demo's of songs also presented on the original album. It gives an interesting insight in how the songs evolved. From a historical point of view some other tracks are more important however;"Home is the range" was a track on the Total War EP that was released in early 1980; "We were" was the b-side of the Independence day single;"Work" is a simple but peculiarly catchy outtake that never reached an official release untill now. Highly recommended!
