IFPI codes, Suggestion for a new Wiki list entry and some questions

I have a of Cruachan's The Middle Kingdom promo CD (http://www.musik-sammler.de/media/448766) and it's IFPI codes are not in the Wiki list, after some googling I found a CD-single with the same ifpi codes on discogs that according to its covers(?) is made in the Netherlands (http://www.discogs.com/Good-Shape-Never … se/1168651)

Is this enough "proof" for it to be considered a fact that all CDs with these codes are made in the Netherlands ?

Also, according to the history of IFPI the codes where introduced sometime in 1994. I see a lot of CD's that where "released" prior to this date with IFPI codes. For example my copy of Grave Digger - War Games and Manowar - Sign Of The Hammer. Me and Volpeth have a discussion about what to do with them and we decided it was best to make new entries for the versions with IFPI codes. I assume this would be the "recommended" approach ? And all the serious collectors I guess would like to have a second glance on their "pre-1994" CDs purchased during and after 1994 in order to see if they have a pre-IFPI or post-IFPI pressing, should a mass announcement about this be made ?

Thanks.

I guess this would make sense, according to this site, it is Netherlands, too. smile

I (still wink) completely stand behind that.

Looking at this release featuring the same codes I think it is safe to list this IFPI combination under Holland:
http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1739370

This, in fact, is the recommended approach. The difference IFPI codes - no IFPI codes most definitely justifies a new entry where necessary. That, however, should be clarified first by contacting the user responsible for the present entry in the database.

If thus a new version is found and added to the DB that would be time for contacting all owners of the first version to check which one they really have.

I have no idea how to update the Wiki as it is in German, Google translate cannot do a good enough job so I can understand what to do. (I never edited a Wiki before)

Ok, so I should send a Nachricht to the entry owner before I make a new entry to make sure that entry owner does or does not own a post-IFPI pressing. How long should I wait for a reply ? (Considering the fact that the entry owner may have stopped using Musik-Sammler)

We can do that for you. Although I would prefer to identify a CD in our database first as a reference that features an explicit print 'Made in Holland', like e.g.: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1248496

Yes, please. In case the owner hasn't been active for 3 months or longer you will receive an according note when klicking on 'Fehler melden'. In all other cases I'd wait for a reply for a lenght of time including 1-2 weekends. If you still should not have got any reaction after that feel free to post it right here - we will take care of it. smile

Here you go, the CD that was the reason of this topic in the first place: http://www.musik-sammler.de/media/448766

Cruachan - The Middle Kingdom Promo CD on HammerHeart Records now updated with Herstellungsland from the discussion here.

Sure... wink  But what I'm looking for is a CD with the said codes and an imprint 'Made in Holland' on the actual disc. We'd use that as reference for the Wiki...

Nope, that would be against our policy of adding only media that you actually hold in your hands. Relying on external data - however accurate they may look - does not meet our standards. wink

Re: IFPI codes, Suggestion for a new Wiki list entry and some questions

I'm having the same issue.

I recently purchased a CD that has a Stamping Code of IFPI 24OD which is not listed on the database.

The Master Code,  however, is IFPI L154 which would indicate that the master was manufactured in Japan.

I also have another not listed on the database with IFPI LO51

Anyone know where these CD's were manufactured?

Regarding IFPI Codes appearing on pre-1994 made CD's, I have never experienced this myself. It is possible that you have a later pressing or re-press of the CD. A lot of re-issues/re-pressings do not state the actual release date of the CD itself, only the original release date of the music and that does not mean that the actual CD is from that year. In fact, I know of quite a few re-pressings that besides the center ring data of the disc are otherwise identical to the original.

This was the main discussion of the topic, what to do with them as they aren't the initial pressings. wink

Re: IFPI codes, Suggestion for a new Wiki list entry and some questions

Found a re-print and the entry creator owns the original.

How does one send message to all owners of a release quickly ? The only way I see is that I have to add all the owners manually when creating a new Nachricht.

For Axxis - II this means 90 people, which would be a real pain.

Messages to all owners can only be sent by moderators. I just sent one to the owners of the original informing them about your new data set. smile
