"Nature has always been a large influence in my life. When I started making audio recordings in the 60's, I always liked going out into nature. I would simply sit and listen to the mesmerizing sound of a mountain stream; hearing it's music and capturing it's sound. Nature in all its expressions; wind in the trees, birds singing, ocean waves, is for me an endless source of fascination. During my early travels I recorded ocean waves all over the world, from the Mediterranean to the Pacific, from the Indian Ocean to the North Sea. I love listen to the music of the waves. Each wave has a different sound, a different rising and falling, a different dramatic effect. The way waves fade in and fizzle away always creates a new experience. I took my recorders wherever I could. At that time they were still big tape recorders and I had to schlep them all around, all through Asia and Europe. I brought them to the beaches and recorded waves. I captured the sounds of waves from all sortss of oceans; all sorts of places; all sorrts of coasts. Waves against rocks, waves in caves, waves on sandy beaches, and waves on pebble beaches."
